Murals
The first image (Cupid & Psychie) shows the nearly completed ceiling mural. It is a stretched canvas
and painted over the actual size of the oval. As is my current practice the image is painted in oil on canvas,
and designed to accomodate any seams. A paperhanger who specializes in mural installation is hired to "hang" it.
The next three panes are from a kitchen mural and, yes, they are from the Cistine Chapel. The space is really dynamic!

This run of paintings are from Mr. "Buzz" Harpers home in New Orleans. (He has since moved and removed the
murals, taking them with him, installing them in his Natchez home.) The length of the entry hall, as shown in the first
photo, is 37 feet long and about 12 feet wide. It was designed in sections to reduce any obvious seam lines. Marble
molding and round ornimentation is painted, only the outer borders are actual trim. It is an allagory of "day", starting
with Apollo careening out of the stable of night, frightning a couple of revellers. In the semi-circle sits Bacchus, tosting
the viewer. Zeus on his throne directs the placement of the sun, (chandelier) centered in the real medalion.
Winged helpers tug at ropes. Cupid and Psychie bridge from day to evening, as their time together was at night. A veil of night and stars is pulled to earth by another "angel",
leading us to the final retirement of day, the final panel.
The set was photographed my me with work lights, which accounts for the yellow hotspots in each panel. I lay on my back
and shot as streight up as I could, the ceiling being about 12 or 14 feet up. My appologies for my inadequicies.
The "Feast of Bacchus" presents a Sumptious feast, just above our eye level. Bacchus descends from the sky to
attend the occasion. Angels hearald his arrival with trumpet fanfare. |
